I know that sometimes you need an army to fix a problem ... but maybe sending strata committee members to boot camp is going a bit too far. But, then again, maybe it's just what we all need.
In Florida, all newly elected condominium board members must certify their familiarity with documentation and polices that are fundamental to the proper running of thier association to remain a member of their condo board. Under the new 2010 laws, board memers must file either a writen confirmation of familiarity with documents and policies or a certificate of completion of an approved course within 90 days of appointment or face suspension until they do.
So, guess what? Board members are going to training courses in Florida.
One of those course is run by the Community Advocacy Network and is called Board Member Boot Camp. It's a one day course that's approved by the State of Florida and it's free. So far over 600 board members have been to the boot camp.
The next Boot Camp course is on 5 February 2011 from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at Century Village Clubhouse, 2400 Century Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, Florida.
You can find out more about the course and register here.
The Community Advocacy Network is Florida's leading advocate for the interests of millions of community association residents statewide and the Board Member Boot Camp has been developed in conjunction with the law firm, Katzman Garfinkel and Berger.
Well done guys!
I wonder whether we will see compulsory committee member training in other states and countries too.
See you in your fatigues on the strata obstacle course.
