Strata Goes National in Australia

Yesterday was the launch of the newest association for strata stakeholders in Australia.

It's called Strata Community Australia (SCA) and it's a collection of other leading strata associations to create a unified national group to represent stakeholders.

There are now 270,000 strata and community title schemes covering two million lots Australia-wide and that's increasing, so that strata corporations are becoming an ever-more important part of the economic and social fabric as are the businesses that service them.

SCA says that the challenge and the opportunity for the strata and community title sector is to clearly articulate its specific needs and ensure they are recognised and understood by the wider community.

Representation to date has been largely driven by state or territory based organisations, who, since 1996 collaborated through the National Community Titles Institute (NCTI) getting to understand their common interests, sharing knowledge and developing a nationally recognised qualification in strata management.  But in August 2010 the boards of the six state and territory bodies came together to plan for a new and more professional level of representation through SCA.

At the launch delegates were told what SCA would be doing, the transition strategies and priorities.  And delegates workshopped issues like membership, ethics, nationalisation of laws, trust accounts and building defects to help SCA get underway.

And, there's a members briefing document you can read here.

So, keep an eye out for developments and changes here and elsewhere on the web.
