Pushing the Limits of Strata Building Technology

On a former brewery site on the 'rough' edge of Sydney's CBD a new high density development is pushing the limits of strata building technology and lifestyle.

For a long time Sydney property developers thought that a rooftop pool, automatic external sunshades and stone, glass and steel facades made for cutting edge apartments.  And, more recently a few energy saving lights and some water recycling also gave the apartments a 'green' edge.  Sadly buyers bought the hype but, honestly, they had (and have) few or no other choices.

Now Fraser's development at One Central Park is offering truly new and different building features.

For instance, one of the buildings is a 33 storey residential tower that features vertical gardens on the outside, a tri-generation power station and a cantilevered heliostat at the top of the building to bounce light into lower level apartments and become a digital light artwork at night.  You can read more about it in this Sydney Morning Herald article.

This development has features that demonstrate what can and should be done with new apartment developments.  Not just rehashing the usual (and boring) high rise apartment block we have been sold for the last 25 years.

After all, if car makers tried selling us a 1990 sedan with a tarted up designer interior and a few solar cells we'd reject that without a second thought ... so we should expect improvements and innovation in apartments too from developers.

So, let's hope we see more and more interesting and high quality apartment developments to replace the mundane stuff we have had to accept for so long.
